Green Building

Green building is one of the core principles of sustainability at Vail Resorts.  Green building includes a variety of practices, many of which adhere to strict standards developed by professional organizations. Buildings use a tremendous amount of resources including energy, water and the land on which they’re constructed.  As our success rests on constructing extraordinary resorts, we look to find the best of both worlds in constructing more sustainable buildings: providing our guests with premier facilities and amenities while respecting our obligation to protect the environment.

Our dedication to striving for the highest in sustainability standards continues. Below is an example of the way in which we pursue stewardship through green building: The U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. In 2007, we constructed the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club clubhouse and earned the LEED Gold standard for the project.

One Ski Hill Place is just steps away from
Breckenridge Mountain
One Ski Hill Place, a RockResort, is the most current of our major construction project to reflect our commitment to green building. One Ski Hill Place, a new RockResorts residential lodge that opened in 2010, was designed to Green Globes standards. Located at the base of Peak 8, this property will set a new standard for luxury and service in Breckenridge. The ski-in/ski-out resort has access to four lifts taking guests to Peaks 7, 8, 9 and 10 in the winter and to hiking and biking trails in the summer, plus the Peak 8 Fun Park. In addition, the resort is conveniently located just steps away from the new seasonally operated BreckConnect Gondola that connects One Ski Hill Place with the historic mountain Town of Breckenridge.

From its outset, the proposed EverVail mixed-use development project has been inspired by Vail Mountain, and as a project, seeks in every way to respect the resources and beauty Vail offers.  As a result of this approach, the masterplan for EverVail achieved a LEED Platinum rating (the highest possible rating) for Neighborhood Development in September 2008 when it completed Final Stage One LEED-ND Review.  According to the U.S. Green Building Council, EverVail was the: 12th project to be LEED-ND certified (Stage 1); the 3rd project to achieve a Platinum LEED-ND rating; and the 1st LEED-ND project in the Colorado/Rocky Mountain region.

In June 2007, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded Vail Resorts with the LEED for Commercial Interiors certification for the environmentally-friendly design, construction and operation of our 56,000-square-foot corporate headquarters in Broomfield, Colorado.
