The Tahoe Fund & Community
Restoration Projects

Vail Resorts' commitment to the restoration projects in each of our communities is demonstrated through both financial donations and employee volunteer time.

The success of the National Forest Foundation program inspired the development of guest donation programs that have direct community impacts at our resorts ourside of Colorado. In Tahoe, Jackson and Jamaica, we have implemented guest donation programs that align with local non-profits focused on funding on-the-ground conservation projects in the resort communities.

The Tahoe Fund

Partnering with The Tahoe Fund, Northstar California Resort, along with neighboring Heavenly and Kirkwood Mountain Resorts, supports the Ski Conservation Fund and environmental restoration projects throughout the Lake Tahoe Basin. Since 2010, the Tahoe Fund and Vail Resorts have raised money through guest donations on season passes, lift ticket, rounds of golf and Northstar lodging. This support has built bike trails, restored public parks and provided for a variety of other projects that people continue to enjoy around the Lake.

  • $60,000 raised
  • Funded two high priority watershed restoration projects on the West and North Shores, segements of the Tahoe Bikeway and restoration in Van-Sickle Bi-State Park

Grand Teton National Park Foundation

Vail Resorts partners with the Grand Teton National Park Foundation in Jackson, WY to help fund a 20-teen trail crew each summer in Grand Teton National Park. This energetic team of 16 to 19-year-olds works side-by-side with park mentors for 10 weeks on summer projects that improve recreational access to trails, protect valuable resources and habitat, and preserve historic sites. In two summer seasons, spanning 17,500 hours of labor, these youth have:

  • Maintained more than 120 miles of trail
  • Moved 32,768 cubic feet of soil to a revegitation site
  • Hiked more than 350 miles
  • Maintained 38 historic buildings and their parking areas
  • Removed 38 tons of ladder fuels

Montego Bay Marine Park Trust

In Jamaica, we support the Montego Bay Marine Park Trust through a Guest Dollar Donation program which raised $25,706 from January thorugh September 2012. This money helped purchase buoys to prevent anchors from damaging coral reefs.
